Teaching About Israel and Palestine

NEW: It is so difficult and complicated to teach about Israel and Palestine these days, especially in a diverse public school environment. This selection of primary and secondary sources and newspaper articles shed light on the complex past. The sources are by no means comprehensive and are supplemented by eight days of lecture and discussion in my class. The goal is --regardless of one's political views about the present conflict-- to faithfully show a complex history and centrist perspectives on the past from Israelis and Palestinians to the extent that it is possible to do so. Young people who understand the history is complex will be better served to intellectually and morally navigate the current crisis.
